If you have a car, the Costa Blanca is just waiting to be explored. The resort towns of Denia, Altea and Javea boast outstanding beach areas and great bathing. The neoclassical cathedral and its octagonal bell tower, known as the Miguelete, is a distinctive landmark in the city. The cathedral guards the supposed Holy Grail, a goblet of purple agate. Splendid art and ceramic collections, the elegant Lonja (exchange) and the lively modernist market building are just some of Valencia's extensive range of attractions.
Shoppers will not be disappointed with Valencia’s array of quality stores and fashionable boutiques. Dining options are varied, ranging from small paella eateries to fine international establishments, and there are a plethora of bars and pubs. The spring festival of La Fallas is an extravagant street party comprising song and dance, and bullfighting.
The A7/E-15 European highway services Valencia from the north and south. Renfe has regular trains from points north and south, converging on Valencia as well as from Madrid; the Talgo 200 trains are the most comfortable and efficient. Various bus companies have services from Madrid and Barcelona’s central stations. Valencia Airport is just west of the city and has scheduled and charter services from all over Europe. Transfers to town are reliable and numerous.
