Menorca Car Hire: Menorca Car Hire Self Drive - Menorca

Menorca

Menorca is a charming, quieter alternative to the tourist hustle and bustle of the other Balearic Islands, with lovely beaches, inlets and stunning coastal views. Accommodation and good food are readily available and there are many interesting attractions.

By car, you can explore the coastline with its many lovely beaches and sweeping vistas. The beaches are found mostly on the south coast, while the north is largely undeveloped and natural, with wild, rocky panoramas. Binibeca, Punta Prima Cala en Porter, Son Bou-San Jaime (the longest beach on Menorca) are just some of the many lovely spots to visit.

Mahon is a maze of narrow streets built around on of the world's largest natural harbours. The Arch de San Roque is the remains of the old city wall. Castell de Santa Agueda, just a short drive away, is the ruin of a former Roman stronghold.
Ciutadella is the former capital, with a distinctly Moorish character and an attractive port.

The small inland villages are also best explored by car, with a compulsory trip to Mount Toro, the highest point on the island. There are also several golf courses on the island for those wanting some exercise.

Holiday charter airlines operate regular services to Mahon from all major European airports. For those with time to spare, a second alternative to flying is great fun - drive through France and Northern Spain and pick up the Trans-Mediterranean ferry out of Barcelona. This sails overnight and can provide an excellent and adventurous addition to your holiday.

There are also twice-daily ferries to Barcelona and Valencia as well as the other Balearic islands of Mallorca and Ibiza.
