Marbella is Situated 40kms southwest of Malaga, Marbella is one of the Costa del Sol’s most upmarket resorts, where the rich and famous have holiday houses on the hills and stylish yachts in the marina.
One of the highlights of the old town is the castle, also known as Alcazaba Wall. There are a number of good clothes shops and restaurants in the old town, making it an excellent place for browsing or enjoying a leisurely meal.
The old town is hidden away and retains some of Marbella’s medieval charm and Arabic influences. Avenida Ramon y Cajal features some fabulous Moorish architecture and Avenida Ricardo Soriano is an interesting and atmospheric street.

Definitely worth a visit is the fabulous Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo, with an impressive collection of artworks by Picasso, Miró and Dalí. To the east of the old town, in Parque de la Represa, is the Museo Bonsai, which is devoted to the Japanese art of miniature tree growing.
Jardin el Angel is one of the Costa del Sol’s finest botanical gardens. Additionally, the Arroyo de la Represa and the Parque de la Constitucion are serene, lovely parks. All three areas offer wonderful environments in which to take a relaxing stroll or spend a few peaceful hours. The numerous beaches in the area are fantastic for swimming and sunbathing, and Marbella’s golf courses and seven-kilometre seafront promenade provide good exercise opportunities.
Architecture enthusiasts will be delighted with the profusion of beautiful historical buildings in the Marbella region. Apostle Santiago’s Chapel, from 1552, the Encarnacin Church and the ancient Bazan Hospital (now housing the Museum for Contemporary Spanish Engravings), are all historically and architecturally significant sights. The Avenue del Mar is famous for another genre of art – it is embellished with a collection of Dalí sculptures.
Nearby, Puerto Banús is one of the Costa del Sol's flashiest marinas. The Banús harbour is surrounded by varied restaurants and bars and the Aquarium de Puerto Banús. A short drive inland from Marbella stands Ronda, one of the loveliest and most historic towns in the region.
The N350-E15 or the N340 coastal road both lead into Marbella. Buses leave from Marbella and take you right into Madrid in eight hours. Trains are also available, connecting Marbella with the rest of Spain and other parts of Europe. Additionally, Marbella has its own international airport.
