Mallorca International Airport can be reached from most major European cities. Buses run regularly into Palma. You can also come directly by ferry from Barcelona or Valencia. Once on the island, travelling by car is the most effective way to get a round.
Mallorca is one of the most popular Spanish island resorts, boasting striking Gothic architecture, lovely beaches and fascinating villages. Palma has a wide choice of accommodation and eating-places plus a vibrant nightlife.
To really explore Mallorca, a car is a great way to get around. You can visit the pretty old town of Valldemossa with its attractive former monastery. A ramble around the town is a good way to spend an hour or two, with the old streets constantly revealing surprises. You can then head for Port de Valldemossa for a refreshing swim in the warm, clear waters.
The town centre is busy and fun, with heaps of bars and restaurants as well as all the usual souvenirs and bric-a-brac. The Gothic cathedral is a fine place to visit, as is the interesting Moslem castle of Palau de l'Almudaina.
Alcudia is worth a visit for its Roman ruins and the nearby nature reserve, the Parc Natural de l'Albufera. The Coves del Drac are a fascinating labyrinth of caves with six underground lakes. Away from the coast, the mountain village of Soller is a perfect place to have a meal; try restaurants in the main square of Placa de la Constitucio.
