Costa Brava

Spain's second city, Barcelona, is the main urban centre and is one of Europe's loveliest cities. From the spectacular cathedral to the absorbing museums, Barcelona has something for everyone. The weird works of the eccentric artist, Gaudi, may be spotted all around town, and gourmets will delight in the many superb restaurants.

Travelling by car is a great way to explore the exotic Costa Brava. Lloret de Mar, with its palm fringed, seafront walkway and the two-mile long beach at Calella are just two great areas to visit. Beaches, boats and swimming are all excellent along the coast. Snorkeling is a great way to relax in the clear waters and Estartit is an ideal place to try scuba diving.

Some of the trendiest holiday resorts in the Mediterranean can be found on the Costa Brava. The added bonus of magnificent scenery and great beaches make this sunny, vibrant coast an excellent choice for that well-earned break.

For history buffs, the well-preserved Roman ruins at Tarragona include a 1st century amphitheatre overlooking the ocean. The magnificent square of Placa de la Font is on La Rambla Nova, Tarragona's main boulevard. Away from the coast, Girona has historic churches and Roman ruins and heaps of fabulous restaurants.

Barcelona is the primary access point for the Costa Brava, with direct flights from most European cities and North America. Taxis into town are readily available. Estacio del Nord bus station serves all Spain's regional centres and most European capitals. The A7 coastal road is the most direct route through the Costa Brava and scenically well worth the drive.
