Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca is one of the highlights of Spain. It is much more laid back than the many busier sunshine spots and great for a family holiday. Its beaches, landscapes, and pleasant waters make it an ideal place for swimming and fishing. Sports like squash, tennis and golf can be played all year round.
The town is situated in the southern part of the Valencian community and is surrounded by two large natural lagoons that form the well-known Salterns of Torrevieja. With easy access to the Mediterranean motorway, it is close to both the provincial capital Alicante and to San Javier.
Driving is the only way to really see the Costa Blanca. Along the coast, you'll pass many beautiful towns, beaches and inlets, and it is often a tough choice deciding where best to stop and soak up the local culture.
The vibrant town and port of Torrevieja, with its magnificent sandy beaches, squares, avenues, esplanades, parks, gardens and protected nature reserves, is the cultural heart of the Costa Blanca. Attractions of particular note are the Real Club Nautico and the Puerto Deportivo Marina Internacional.
Javea has a medieval Old Town - a labyrinth of narrow streets and small plazas dominated by the 15th century Gothic fortified church of San Bartolomé.
Further along the coast is the village of Jalon. This quaint village surrounds the Old Square, from which can be seen Jalon Church with its striking blue dome.
Jalon is also famous for its wines and there are several bodegas, or wine cellars where you can sample the local wares.
Alicante and Valencia Airports have international and domestic flights connecting to all major Spanish and European destinations. The Costa Blanca is also served by the Mediterranean Motorway A7 (E15), a wonderful way to explore the coast and the most direct route back to Northern Europe.
